The International Living Future Institute™ announced the recipients of its 2015 Living Building Challenge™ Hero Awards. The new Heroes were recognized at the Institute’s Big Bang Dinner, a focal point of its annual Living Future unConference. Individuals who receive this distinction have demonstrated a fierce commitment to the Living Building Challenge and their desire to continually raise the bar on behalf of the green building industry.
“We honoured these heroes for their commitments to the Institute’s mission: to lead and support the transformation toward communities that are socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative. We tip our hats to them for continually pursuing and improving how projects are designed, materials are specified and construction is performed,” says Amanda Sturgeon, Executive Director. “These people will be known as pioneers in the growing global efforts to combat climate change, and promote the sentiments of the Living Building Challenge.
This year’s Heroes are:
- Tom Elliot and Barbara Scott, Owners, Desert Rain House
- Anthony Guerrero, Chief Sustainability Officer, Natural Resources Defense Council Offices
- Michelle Johansson, Associate Architect, Jasmax
- Alejandro Lirusso, Owner, BIOe
- Tricia Love, ESD Consultant and Owner, Tricia Love Consulting, Ltd.
- Dale Mikkelsen, Director of Development, Simon Fraser University Community Trust
- Charley Stevenson, Principal, Eco Strategy
- Bill Updike, Interim Deputy Director, Urban Sustainability Administration, District of Columbia Department of the Environment
- ML Vidas, Architect and Owner, Vidas Architecture, LLC
Heroes were nominated by Institute staff and other individuals familiar with their accomplishments. They were selected by Institute Executive Director, Amanda Sturgeon and Institute CEO, Jason F. McLennan.
